When the end blade is blunt it can be broken away from the strip to leave a fresh sharp point. There are 13 points for each strip, and spare strips are readily available from a number of manufacturers. 

The blades are not as easy to "snap" off as the word implies. We find a pair of pliers, and a strong wrist, are needed.
